Description:
The Lena Bangle Lyerly Memorial Scholarship was established in 1989 following her death at age eighty one.
Lena had an early life dream of becoming a nurse but circumstances prevented her from furthering her education to do so. All her adult life she was a faithful active church member as well as a devoted loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
Her family endows this financial aid scholarship for persons who wish to pursue a career in the fields of Health or Christian Education in loving memory of Lena so that, even in her death, her dream might be fulfilled in the life of a fellow Christian.
The family of Lena Bangle Lyerly wishes the recipients persistence in meeting their educational goals. May they go and serve the Lord with gladness!
Community and school involvement as well as financial need will be considered in awarding this memorial scholarship.
The winner of this scholarship typically receives a one time award of $1000.00.
The Brad Patrick Memorial Scholarship:
Requirements: Rowan-Salisbury Public High School Senior with a financial need to further their education.
Description:
The Brad Michael Patrick Memorial Scholarship was established in 1989 following his death at age fifteen.
Brad was an outstanding special young man who was very active in our church, our community, an in all of our lives. His life was taken by a drunk driver on December 29, 1989. Brad was unable to complete his goals in life and further his education due to this tragic event. All of his life he was a faithful son, a faithful friend, a faithful brother, and a very loving and caring member of our church.
His friends and family endow this financial aid as a scholarship for a person(s) in financial need from Rowan County, North Carolina. This scholarship is in loving memory of Brad so that, even in his death, his dreams and goals might be fulfilled by a fellow outstanding student who otherwise may not have been able to accomplish these goals.
The family and friends of Brad Michael Patrick wish the recipient(s) persistence in obtaining their educational goals in memory of Brad.
Community and school involvement as well as financial need will be considered in awarding this memorial scholarship.
The winner of this scholarship typically receives a one time award of $1000.00.
The Hubert and Blanche Ritchie Scholarship:
Requirements: High school senior that is an active member of Christiana Lutheran Church enrolled in a two or four year college or university program.
Description:
The Hubert and Blanche Ritchie Scholarship was first given to Christiana's high school seniors in May of 1998. Mr. Ritchie established the scholarship in loving memory of his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie loved their church family and especially wanted to help students continue their education beyond high school.
Mr. Ritchie wanted the application for the scholarship to show the senior's service to Christiana as well as service to his or her high school and the community. He also wanted the applicants to write a paragraph to reflect on how they would use the gifts God had given them as they pursued their future careers.
Mr. Ritchie did not set a limit on how many scholarships would be given; in fact, in the early days of the scholarship, he would personally make sure each of Christiana's applicants received $500.00. Upon Mr. Ritchie's death, the scholarship he had established at Christiana became part of the Hubert and Blanche A. Ritchie Foundation. This Foundation is dedicated to carry on the wishes of Hubert and Blanche Ritchie as it works with the Benevolent Foundation of Christiana each year. Winners of this scholarship typically receive a one time award of $1000.00.
