THE MICHAEL YANG FOUNDATION

The Michael Yang Foundation was organized in 2002 by Steve and Lori Yang in memory of their son, Michael Yang.  Michael died at the age of 23 months on November 12, 2001.  His death was sudden and unexpected with the cause being undetermined.  Steve and Lori wish to honor their little boy while somehow making a difference in the lives of others.  The 3 areas of support  through the Foundation are a reflection of Michael and what would have brought him joy and been important to the quality of his life.

1. Kindermusik. The first area of support from The Michael Yang Foundation is Kindermusik.  It is a music program for children age newborn to seven years old.  Michael was always dancing and if he heard music he would start to wiggle.  Along with his parents, Michael participated in Kindermusik and it was a gift they shared together.  The Yangs decided that they wanted that experience for other children and parents.  A child is selected that otherwise would not financially be able to participate in Kindermusik.

2. Young Life. The second area of support is Young Life.  Young Life is a Christian organization for disinterested teens.  Michael's life would have been built on a Christian foundation.  The Yangs want to continue that effort in the life of another child.  Each year, Young Life sends teenagers to summer camp, with a number of those wishing to go financially unable. The Foundation will sponsor a child to attend and prayerfully, improve the quality of their life and their relationship with God.

3. Grief Program. The third area is one in which Steve and Lori chose to support through their own struggles with grief.  Through the support of a grief program in Charlotte, the Yangs credit so much of their strength and courage to a support network.  Along with other bereaved parents, the Yangs have started a support program in this community for parents who have lost a child.   The meetings are offered monthly, as well as weekly.  The monthly meetings are of no financial assistance, but the weekly support sessions require financial aid to fund professional counselors as facilitators of the group.

An annual fundraiser is held for The Michael Yang Foundation.  The first was in November 2002 and was a huge success.  It is called Voices of Hope. It is music in the park.  The music is a mix of inspirational, praise, and songs of remembrance.  Since Michael's death, the Yangs have found music to be a comfort to them.  And also knowing Michael's love of music they had the idea to share the power of music with others through an outdoor concert. The second fundraiser in November 2003 raised over $30,000.

The Michael Yang Foundation relies on contributions from the community for support to carry out these services.  Gifts to The Michael Yang Foundation are greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in more information about The Michael Yang Foundation or would like to give a contribution please contact Steve or Lori Yang:
